International Law Week at Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov

The International Law Week was held on October 7-11, 2019 at Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov.

The event was organized by the Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov together with the Council of Europe with the support of the Council of Europe Information Point in Minsk.

 The International Law Week was attended by 20 students. Aleksey Egorov, Rector of the University, Krystyna Khokhlova, Project Coordinator of the Council of Europe, and Anna Sizintseva, Administrative and Finance Assistant of the Council of Europe Information Point in Minsk, delivered welcoming remarks during the opening session.

 The first two days of the event, 7 and 8 October, were devoted to the Council of Europe activities, the European Convention on Human Rights. Kanstantsin Dzehtsiarou, associate professor of law and social justice at the University of Liverpool, delivered an introductory lecture on the European Convention on Human Rights. The topic of business and human rights was presented by Olga Rezvanova, Counselor of the Judge of the Court of the Eurasian economic union. Krystyna Khokhlova, Project Coordinator of the Council of Europe, made an intervention about the Council of Europe's HELP Program, which provides online education for lawyers. The Council of Europe and its role in protecting human rights on the international arena was the subject of the lecture by Andrey Yesin, the Council of Europe expert and former lawyer of the European Court of Human Rights from Russia.

 The first two days ended with a practical task and a quiz for students. The two groups which showed the best results during the quiz received books on the law of the European Convention on Human Rights.

On 9 July, a webinar will be organised on “Roma rights and equality” between  3-5 pm CET, in the framework of the regional project “Strengthening access to justice through non-judicial redress mechanisms for victims of discrimination, hate crime and hate speech in Eastern Partnership countries”.
