COMBATING HATE SPEECH: MAKING THE INTERNET A BETTER PLACE

FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

 

 

Competition objective: to raise awareness and improve understanding of the principles of human rights respect and protection that underlies functioning of the Council of Europe among Belarusian students. The Competition is a follow-up to the series of creativity competitions, organized by the Council of Europe Information Point in Minsk in 2013–2015.

The competition is held in order to involve students in the fight against racism and discrimination in all areas of daily life, including Enternet, as well as so as to disseminate the information about No Hate Speech Movement organized by the Youth Department of the Council of Europe and supported in the states members of the Organisation and outside of it. Belarus takes an active part in the campaigns carried out within combating hate speech.

Competition dates: May 25 – September 30, 2016.

Contestants should submit their works in electronic form by 30 September 2016 to the Council of Europe Information Point in Minsk via e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Confirmation on delivery will be sent to the participants.

Participants taking three first places will be invited to the World Forum for Democracy, held in Strasbourg (France) November 7–9, 2016. The Competition organizers cover the travel, visa, and per diem expenses during staying in Strasbourg. The winners will be also awarded diplomas of the Council of Europe and Belarusian State University.

The winners will be determined on the 7th of October, 2016.

Types of creative work: essays, articles, videos, posters, pictures. The materials can be submitted in Belarusian, Russian, English or French.

Competition files are to be submitted with the information about the participant(s): surname, name and father-name; year of birth; place of study; mobile number; e-mail.

Both the works done individually or by team of authors are accepted. In case a team of authors takes the prize, only one of them will be able to take part in the trip. This decision will be referred to the consideration of the authors.

The Competition jury will enroll the representatives of the Council of Europe, Youth Department of the Council of Europe, Belarusian State.

Relevance of the work to the contest theme, creativity and quality of the provided material are among the selection criteria. The uniqueness of the work is to be observed that will be checked for plagiarism.
